PIGMENTATION

Pigmentation

Pigmentation is an extensive terminology. It includes hundreds of skin conditions and occur at various depths of the skin. So it’s important to classify the pigmentation, understand the underlying cause and then suggest the appropriate treatment options.

Pigmentation disorders can cause changes to colour of the skin.

Hyperpigmentation means the skin looks darker than normal due to excess deposition of melanin(pigement). It can be caused by damage from sun, inflammation, post acne or other skin injuries. People with darker skin tone are more prone to hyperpigmentation especially with no proper protection from sun. Thus sunscreen is important step in the treatment protocols.

Hypo pigmentation means the skin looks lighter than normal seen in skin issues like vitiligo, sun spots, Albinism and many more.
